Javier Pinilla-Ibarz, MD, PhD, senior member of the Department of Malignant Hematology at Moffitt Cancer Center, discusses the biggest challenge in treating patients with chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL).
According to Pinilla-Ibarz, the challenges with treating this disease lie in managing, using, and sequencing the various drugs available for these patients. There are a number of mutations found in CLL that can help guide therapy.
Pinilla-Ibarz says the treatment landscape for CLL is becoming more complex than it has been in the past. It is incredibly important for physicians to attend meetings in order to keep up with the information coming out constantly in the field. Pinilla-Ibarz says community oncologists need to be aware of all the advances in CLL.
