Five-month-old Gandai was filmed sticking her tongue at the camera after she was introduced to her new adoptive mother at Jacksonville Zoo in Florida. The adorable western lowland gorilla was introduced to Bulera and videoed taking her first steps towards her. A surrogate mother was chosen for the gorilla after her own mother Kumbuka was unwilling to care for the infant. Kumbuka was trained for motherhood ahead of her arrival but was seen to be carrying her unsafely so keepers had to intervene. This was blamed on her hearing problems which meant she was unable to hear her daughter crying.
