German-based company millDENT specialises in the manufacture of dental prostheses made of zirconium. Founder Akin Öztürk uses the DWX-50 milling machine from Roland DG in the manufacturing process. The 5-axes machine is ideal for milling crowns and bridges in zirconium, PMMA and wax. "The DWX-50 is compact, easy to operate and much less expensive than similar machines from other manufacturers," Öztürk says.
The Roland DWX-50
The DWX-50 is an advanced 5-axis production tool for the creation of high-quality dental prosthetics, including copings, crowns, full bridges and abutments using aesthetically-preferred zirconia, wax, PMMA and acrylic materials.
In addition to milling on X, Y and Z axes, the DWX-50 rotates blocks and discs of zirconia 360 degrees in clockwise and counterclockwise movements and tilts them 20 degrees toward the front and back to support undercuts. The DWX-50 features an automatic tool changer that supports up to five different sizes of milling tools for an easy three-step production process. Users simply load the milling material and secure it with the included clamps, store tools in the tool magazine, and send milling data from the PC to the DWX. The DWX-50 automatically completes the job, allowing dental lab employees to focus on other tasks.

Easy Shape Roland Dental Solution
My name is Akin Öztürk. I am a qualified dental technician and have been managing the company millDENT for the past year. We are a milling centre in central Duisburg. We carry out manufacturing and milling for laboratories all over Germany using the Roland machine. We mill zirconium or wax.
Digital milling is a must for me nowadays. The quality is so much better than manual milling, because a human can never be as good at milling as a machine.
The entire procedure is milled automatically, so once I've started the machine, I barely need to do anything.
Simultaneous 5-axis processing
This was a major factor for me in choosing the Roland because machines of this size often don't have a fifth axis.
It is important to choose a five-axis simultaneous machine because this makes it possible to mill in recessed positions. A four-axis machine limits you in this regard.
Automatic Tool Changer
The automatic tool changer is also very important, because it means that you don't need to run to and from the machine to change tools.
Automatic Calibration
It has automatic calibration which means that you really don't need to do anything during calibration. It automatically stores all its parameters.
Open system
As well as this, it is an open system which means that I can choose any other material or CAM that I want.
I opted for the Roland because its price-performance ratio provides me with exactly the same service as a larger machine would.
The Roland machine supports me a lot in my work because it is easy to use and very reliable and because it does its work well and provides high quality within a very short space of time. The machine is bit like an employee who simply keeps working at the weekend or overnight.
