Before voting No on legislation curtailing who can have a permit to carry and where, Asemblyman Kevin J. Rooney (R-Bergen) explains the Democrat’s plan to restrict concealed carry gun permits simply prohibits second amendment rights.
The bill to restrict concealed carry gun permits in New Jersey (A4769) would also require people wanting to carry guns to purchase pricey liability insurance and complete safety training and raises the application fee to $200 from $2. Handguns would also be barred from 25 broad categories of public spaces and private property without the expressed permission. Violations would be a third-degree crime, punishable by 3-5 years in prison and a fine up to $15,000.
The Assembly Appropriations Committee voted 7-4 to advance the bill Oct. 10 at the Statehouse in Trenton. It is expected to get a vote in the Assembly on Oct. 27.
