Two neolithic burial chambers (or 'cromlechs') - which The Citizen Cairn pondered may, or may not, represent the remains of one long cairn - are located below, and to the east, of the summit of Mynydd Llangyndeyrn, an elongated ridge bearing a bewildering array of prehistoric monuments. Yeah, this is a wondrous place to rest for a while, despite the industrial noise emanating from the Torcoed Quarry.... not visible from here, yet inexorably consuming the northern flank of the mountain. Why do we treat our prehistoric heritage so??
The popular association with King Arthur ('Arthur's Table') is par for the course... although, perhaps more interestingly, Gwal-y-Filiast ('Lair of the greyhound bitch') may be referencing the former domain of a She-wolf? The only dogs to be seen here now are those straining at leashes held by locals... or maybe the much more wary fox waiting for the safety of night.
With regards the quarrying: hey, I get everyone needs a job, and that prehistoric heritage is not exactly top of most people's agendas. However, when the outlet of whatever outrage there is nowadays toward the rape of the countryside is dominated by the narcissist muppets of the so-called 'extinction rebellion' or 'just stop oil.'.. formed and funded by far-left numbskulls too stupid to grasp that they are part of the very movements RESPONSIBLE for promoting fossil fuels/setting nuclear power back decades in the first place... is it any wonder ordinary folks can't see the problem?
The Citizen Cairn suggests those who care more for the planet than self-aggrandisement ignore the marxist and fascist loons and shout out our commitment to this very human story at grassroots level. Yeah, let's learn from our mistakes... and bollocks to the extremists.
