LEAD IN:
The sight of the circus's big top arriving in town always brings with it anticipation and excitement, not least among children who look forward to the lions, the slapstick clowns and elephants, but a lot is changing.
Peru's La Tarumba is at the vanguard of the new circuses and when the ringmaster cries "let the show go on" he's talking about an exhilarating attraction which fuses theatre, music and mime as well as daredevil performances.
STORYLINE:
The fourth Festival of the Circle is underway and La Tarumba's big top (tent) is rumbling with excitement.
The show organiser boasts of having the best and most innovative circus company, with leading acts from around world flocking to take part in La Tarumba's.
This is Peru's oldest circus company, but it's much more than a circus.
Patricia is one of the performers.
She says "besides doing a circus show we have a school, a circus school where students are taught to work in circus, theatres, get music training, a complete artist, basically".
