In this episode of The Newshour, the host Madhavdas Gopalakrishnan will be discussing how the Election Commission of India (ECI) announced on Thursday that it is prepared to test remote voting, a move that will also increase voter turnout. This decision recognises the difficulties faced by domestic migrants in returning to their home constituencies to cast their ballots. The ECI claimed in a statement to have created a multi-constituency Remote Electronic Voting Machine (RVM) that allows voters to cast ballots for various constituencies from a single remote polling place. In the age of technological innovation, it is unthinkable to disenfranchise people based on their migration.
