In a major development in the fake degree row involving Union Minister Smriti Irani, a Delhi court today said that the plea against her is maintainable. Union Minister for Human Resource Development Smriti irani was alleged to have furnished false information about her educational qualifications in affidavits filed with the Election Commission. According to the complaint, in Irani's three affidavits before the EC while filing nominations for her candidature for Lok Sabha as well as Rajya Sabha polls, Irani had purportedly given different details about her educational qualifications. It is also alleged that in her affidavit for April 2004 Lok Sabha polls Irani had said that she completed her B.A. degree in 1996 from Delhi University (school of correspondence) whereas in another affidavit of July 11, 2011 for contesting Rajya Sabha elections from Gujarat she said her highest qualification was B.Com first year from the School of Correspondence, Delhi University.
