In this video I compare the Red Komodo 6K with Sonys FX6 cinema line camera. The footage in this video is intended to push the codecs from each of these cameras to near breaking point. In this way we can understand where the limitations are.
The results of which camera is which, will be revealed at the end of this video.
Notes about this video:
Red:
Codec: Red R3D
Lens: Canon RF 24-70 F2.8
Sony:
Codec: ProRes Raw
Lenses: Sigma 24-70 F2.8
Software:
FCPX
FilmConvert
Magic Bullet Looks
Selection of manufacturer factory Luts
My computer did struggle with this video as there are so many different color grades. As a result some grades are not designed to be extract matches, but rather just to show different options for what is possible with each camera.
Thoughts: Both cameras thoroughly impressed me with just how flexible they were. Granted, the Sony required an external recorder to capture raw, whereas the Red could do this all internally.
