This video shows an animation of the German Schlieffen Plan in late 1914. The basic idea was to bypass the immediate German-French border through Luxembourg and Belgium to quickly defeat France. However, the army got bogged down and was pushed back. The Germans would retry an attack on Paris in 1918 (Kaiserschlacht) but this would also fail and result in Germany's defeat.
