The University of Western Australia Political Science and International Relations Department together with the Centre for Muslim States and Societies and the Australian Institute of International Affairs in Western Australia hosted a zoom seminar titled ‘Glass half empty or glass half full? How Indonesia is meeting the challenges of COVID-19 and what it means for foreign and defence policy.’ This seminar was presented by Natalie Sambhi, a Doctoral Candidate at the Australian National University Strategic and Defence Studies Centre. This presentation discussed Indonesia’s responses to the global pandemic, both domestically and internationally. Ms Sambhi delved into the country’s mixed handling thus far, considering both top-down policies and bottom-up innovation to this complex health crisis. This seminar shed some light on how Indonesia is navigating the related challenges of social distancing and self-isolation, particularly during Ramadan, the broader effects of COVID-19 on Indonesia’s foreign and defence policy priorities, and what this might mean for Australia.
This seminar was facilitated by Flavia Bellieni Zimmermann, Teaching Fellow and Doctoral Candidate at the School of Social Sciences, Political Science and International Relations, Centre for Muslim States and Societies.
