Sixteen copies were ordered at one point; this was the fourteenth printed. Jeremy Sumpter (who would gain another lead role in a film with 2014's INTO THE STORM) plays the BOY WHO WOULDN'T GROW UP as he accompanies the Darling children to Never Never Land, where he is engaged in an ongoing war with evil Pirate Captain Hook. This is the first time in fifty years that an authorized film or television adaptation of the 1904 J.M. Barrie play had been commissioned. It had first been made into a silent film for Paramount Pictures in 1924, and this was followed by Disney's film version in 1953. In turn, this was followed by television versions of a stage production (most notably a 1960 performance with Mary Martin in the role), an animated series that aired briefly on Fox Kids, a 1987 adaption for Soviet television and a 1988 direct-to-VHS offering from Australia. Two sequels had been commissioned before this film, 1991's HOOK and 2002's RETURN TO NEVER LAND.
