Dear Whittier Enthusiasts,
The goal of this work, albeit in a small way, is the furtherance of the recognition of John Greenleaf Whittier as one of our preeminent, finest American poets. Also, we hope to bridge the gap from readers of biographies to the current generation who love to watch video.
In our video biography, “John Greenleaf Whittier: Editor, Politician, Abolitionist, Poet,” the narrative of Whittier’s fascinating story is derived from the Whittier Home’s tour script, which we overlaid with stunning visuals that best illustrate it. In instances where there were no visual reference sources, we filled in Whittier’s life by showing the localities that were near and dear to him in the charming New England towns of Haverhill and Amesbury, Massachusetts.
Filmmaker and voice over artist Michael Maglaras generously gave us unlimited access to his commercial CD of “Snow-Bound” for use in this project. His fantastic CD and other works can be found at cdbaby.com and Amazon.com.
Additionally, we were pleased to receive a letter of praise from Ben Pickard, Ph.D., Whittier expert, author, and historian. A quote from his letter:
“You made wonderful use of photos and background material and, I think, put the proper emphasis on his life and achievements. You have done a fine job with the research, but the photos and your narrative give them a special quality, and I think your film does capture the essence of what Whittier was and what he meant to his time."
We hope that the video will be enjoyable and informative for those who watch. I, personally, am very thankful to the Whittier Home Association to have had the opportunity to assemble Whittier’s great story for this video biography. Please leave a review on Amazon.com if you can. We would very much appreciate that!
Thank You,
