Castel Gandolfo is a picturesque town located 25 km southeast of Rome, in the Italian region of Lazio. It's colloquially known as Castello in the Castelli Romani dialects and is renowned for its historical and natural beauty. The town is perched on the edge of Lake Albano, an extinct volcanic crater, and is celebrated for its elegant historical centre encircled by ancient walls. Castel Gandolfo has been elected one of the most beautiful villages in Italy and is famous for the Papal Palace, the summer residence of the Popes since the 17th century.
