Rosh Ha-Shana is the beggining of the Jewish New Year, traditionally celebrating the birth of human kind, Adam and Eve.

Rosh Hashanah, the Jewish New Year, which symbolically marks the birth humankind.
During the holiday, you have a festive meal with lots of traditions: Apples dipped in honey, for a sweet new year, a pomegranate, whose many seeds symbolize the many good deeds you hope to fulfill, and the head of a fish...which basically reminds us to use our heads.
Rosh Hashanah is a time for self-reflection. You think about what you have done wrong during the year, and how to be a better person next year. A lot of Jews go to synagogue, where they pray and sing together.
During Rosh Hashanah services, this ram horn called a shofar, is blown frequently; the sound is meant to inspire awe and fervor, and its been used for thousands of years of Jewish history.
So, now you have a few basics to get you started, if you want to wish somebody a sweet new year, just say, Shanah Tova, Umetukah!
