Some of us can remember back to 1957 when the TV series, Whirlybirds, introduced us to the Bell model 47 helicopter. And then starting in 1972, and running for 11 years, every episode of the TV series M*A*S*H began with two Bell 47’s approaching the landing pad with wounded soldiers strapped to the landing skids. If these visions bring back fond memories, then you don’t want to miss learning about the Lawrence D. Bell Aircraft Museum in Mentone Indiana.
ANN’s Paul Plack sits down with Tim Whetstone, the President of the Lawrence D. Bell Aircraft Museum. Whetstone said that Mentone is the perfect location for the museum because it is the birthplace of Larry Bell. In this interview, Whetstone reminds us that while Bell helicopters are widely known, the Bell Aircraft Company also produced over 12,000 fixed-wing aircraft during World War II. And of course, it was the Bell X1 rocket plane that began the exploration of supersonic flight. For anyone interested in aviation history, this video is a must see.
