We could have named this plant Oh WOW for all the times we made that exclamation upon seeing it in the trial gardens. Rock Steady™ chastetree is a stunner. Not just for a few weeks, but for literal months. Its abundant bloom display begins in late spring and flowers keep showing up through fall. There are enough blooms to gather for cut flower arrangements and leave for pollinators. The rebloom is especially abundant when flowers are collected or spent blooms are deadheaded. If you’re familiar with Vitex, you might be wondering just how cold-hardy this one is. It’s fared very well here in our chilly Midwest test gardens. In some winters, it will die back to the ground, which just helps keep it at the lower end of its mature size range. If you live in a warm climate and would like to keep it smaller, cut it down in the early spring. This is an ideal plant for folks with limited square footage in their gardens, needing to get the most out of each plant they choose.
