Is student loans haram? Yes. Student loans are 100% haram and here’s why. The prophet peace be upon him forbade interest strictly. According to Sunan Ibn Majah, prophet Muhammad peace be upon him declared the practice of riba worse than "a man committing zina (fornication) with his own mother". Also , those who engage in Riba or interest have waged war on Allah and his messenger . The truth is , there is 0 justification for student loans or taking interest and especially in the world we live in, there are plenty of interest-free and debt free opportunities for Muslim youth to be successful.
