Whether on the silver screen or set against the eternal darkness of space, few brands have had the impact Omega has enjoyed. Though Omega has been known for its high-quality watches for well over a century and a half (the company takes its present name from its successful Omega caliber), their notoriety shot through the roof thanks to the brand's three most important collaborations — The Olympic games, NASA’s Apollo missions, and the venerable British spy James Bond.
This weekend Tim focuses on two of these collaborations.
The Omega Seamaster Diver 300M James Bond 60th Anniversary was released in late 2022 to celebrate the, well, 60th anniversary of the iconic film franchise, a franchise in which Bond has been sporting a Seamaster for nearly three decades. This special edition Bond watch, which ranks among the best Bond edition watches, is everything a collaboration of this nature should be — namely, subtle.
Resurrecting the understated wave dial of the earlier 2531.80 and sporting a matte aluminum bezel (in contrast to the shiny ceramic offerings of recent years), this very special Seamaster feels like a reminder of what the Diver 300M could be and maybe offers a glimpse of what is to come. Other changes include replacing the signature five-link bracelet with a mesh bracelet reminiscent of the No Time to Die Seamaster, a lollipop seconds hand straight out of Spectre, the substitution of a 60 for the dive bezel’s traditional triangle, and a mechanically animated Bond moving into frame and firing down the barrel on the caseback.
