LOPEZ AND JACKSON FOR KIDNEYS
The National Kidney Foundation honoured Samuel L. Jackson and his wife LaTanya R. Jackson at the 29th Annual Gift of Life dinner, hosted by comedian George Lopez and his wife Ann Lopez.
Samuel L. Jackson was honoured on Saturday with the "Gift of Life" Humanitarian Award.
The actor and his wife LaTanya Richardson were recognised for their dedication to the prevention and cure of paediatric kidney disease, a cause they've been at the forefront of since learning their niece needed a kidney transplant.
"We believe in the Kidney Foundation," noted Samuel L. Jackson. "We have member sour our family who need kidneys. We have members of our family who are trying to be donors and we hope that we can make a difference by showing that there are other people that care. We get screened, we have members of our family screened. We are trying to do humanitarian things, not just for this organisation but for other things."
In 2005, George Lopez received a kidney transplant from his wife Ann. Since then, the Lopez family has served as spokesperson for the National Kidney Foundation.
"We have the opportunity in our bodies because we have two kidneys that you can donate one, like my wife did with me and she has a normal life and I am healthy for the first time in my life," noted Lopez. "It's a fantastic organisation and we are proud to help."
The gala supported programs such as the Children and Teen Camping Program, Kidney Early Evaluation Program (KEEP), and the Paediatric Education Conference.
