I ❤️ spray foam but here’s my main CON:
1.You won’t be able to identify leaks in the roof. The water will absorb into the open cell foam and cause the roof sheathing to rot before you realize there is a problem. If you go with a standing seam metal roof, this is almost a non-issue.
🙋♂️ Would I want it on my house…? Hell Yeah! At least at the roofline. For the exterior walls: Zip-R in conjunction with Batt insulation would be my pick if my budget could handle it!
Open-cell spray foam applied to the roofline will create a conditioned attic instead of a vented attic. If you’ve ever been inside a spray foamed attic, it’s shocking the temperature difference compared to a vented attic 😅.
In GA, the HVAC handler and ducts are typically in the attic so this is another benefit of reducing the temperature in the space.
