Edward Woodward was a retired intelligence agent who helped people in trouble. HIs past sometimes came back to haunt him, and he kept in touch with some of his colleagues (e.g. Robert Lansing). 'The Equalizer' (1985) was filmed in New York and ran for four seasons. It would have had a fifth only Universal and CBS got into a spat over 'Murder, She Wrote' so the network pulled the plug.
