Germany’s President Steinmeier arrived in Kyiv Tuesday morning on a surprise visit, months after a diplomatic dustup with Ukraine’s leadership previously saw him uninvited from Kyiv.
In the presence of his Ukrainian counterpart, Steinmeier stressed Germany’s stance towards the escalated situation.
Steinmeier has long been accused for his soft-on-Putin stance.
After the German leader admitted making mistakes in his Russia policy, Zelensky has personally invited him to visit Ukraine twice.
His trip was canceled at short notice due to security concerns.
Germany has become one of the largest suppliers of air defense equipment to Ukraine in recent months.
A forum focusing on the reconstruction of Ukraine is meanwhile on going in Berlin.
Leaders including German Chancellor Scholz called for a "new Marshall Plan" for building a future Ukraine as a European Union member.
Ukraine says that repairing the damage caused will cost $750 billion.
