The Italian Teacher by Tom Rachman follows a legendary artist named Bear Bavinski (*perfect* artist name, right?) and his perpetually reaching son, Pinch.

Like many great artists, Bear is a complicated person. And by complicated, I mean he's a jerk. The only way Pinch stays in his good graces is through unwavering adoration and not asking him for anything.

What I wonder is whether Pinch’s story is ultimately a tragedy or a triumph.

Excellent book. Highly recommend. Five stars. Check it out.
