David McWilliams recently suggest that Ireland should kick out REITs, and so-called Vulture funds and ban them from Ireland. Is he right or will this lead to more issues.
First-time buyers have it hard enough finding homes competing with property funds is not ideal. But will restricting international funding lead to more homes being build. Will taxing investors or developers more lead to more homes being constructed.
Development is complex and has a lot of risks. Adding more risks, like increased taxes, increased stamp duty, imposing restrictions on how a developer can sell their scheme, suggesting a buyers strike all add to the risks. This will not lead to more units being build for renters or homeowners.
The solutions lie in working together looking for opportunities and stopping TD objecting to planning of housing .
