Filmmaker Glenn Morey’s short film Side by Side tells the stories of 100 South Korean orphans. Morey was abandoned at birth and adopted by an American couple when was 6 months old.
Another orphan, Jo Youn-hwan, was abandoned aged seven and was never adopted. He grew up in a vicious, hierarchical institution. Jo later founded the Orphan Rights and Interests Solidarity, the first-ever rights group for aged-out orphans in South Korea.
