I had to do this one in Marathi! But let me know if you’d like a translated version and I’ll surely create one❤️
Thalipeeth is a very common and delicious breakfast dish in Maharashtra. It is made with a flour called ‘bhajni’ which is a mix of many lentils, grains and spices. Thus, making this is super easy and quick. You just need to add a couple of more ingredients to the already-spiced flour. Since the dough has low gluten, you cannot roll it like a regular roti/chapati and have to spread it with fingers instead.
Ingredients I used:
- 3/4 cup of thalipeeth bhajni (you can find this in local Indian grocery store)
- 1/4 cup besan
- 1 small size onion, chopped
- 2 to 3 green chillies
- 1 tsp coriander powder
- 3/4 tsp cumin powder
- 1 tablespoon coriander leaves, chopped
- Salt as per taste
- 1/2 tsp turmeric
- 1 tsp chilli powder (or as preferred)
- Water for kneading, around 1/2 cup
- Oil for frying
Procedure:
- Add all the chopped ingredients, turmeric, chilli powder and salt to the bhajni/flour.
- Make a dough by adding water little by little
- Grease a baking sheet or any paper, and spread the dough with your fingers into a flat round roti
- Fry it in little oil on both sides till it’s crispy on sides and cooked thoroughly
Serve hot, enjoy with some dahi/yogurt.
