(24 Oct 2018) Pakistanis who have been living for decades in housing provided for government employees in Karachi clashed with police trying to evict them under a Supreme Court order on Wednesday.
During the protest residents threw stones and the police used batons, tear gas and water cannons, leaving at least 12 injured on both sides.
Officer Shamael Riaz said police tried to remove the protesters' barricades and used their equipment to disperse the crowd but later pulled back under orders.
He added over a dozen protesters were arrested for obstructing police efforts to carry out the eviction orders.
Resident Naeem Ullah Rehman said the police "didn't care" about children and the elderly caught up in the clash.
