Elder Tra Willbanks released a statement on behalf of Gateway elders as they had promised during their staff weekly meeting on Thursday. MISTER Willbanks who has been an elder since 2014 shared the emotional statement and began by apologizing to Cindy Clemishire for the years of pain she had endured and also for their initial communication where they incorrectly referred to the sensual abuse as an inappropriate relationship.
He said the independent investigations are still ongoing and promised to the Gateway people that he would share with them the report when it came out. Elder Wilbanks explained why James Morris and his wife had to resign and what the future of Gateway looks like. In his over 20-minute speech, he said Max Lucado, a best-selling author, and former teaching pastor at Oakhills Church in San Antonio will be the interim teaching pastor at Gateway while Pastor Joakim Lundqvist from Sweden, a frequent speaker at the church, will be taking on a more pastoral role with the staff.
