You can support BLM without hating the police.
You can say Black lives matter without having to tell everyone else they matter too. Our black friends and family members are being treated differently by the police than the rest of us. If you can’t see that and you need to say all lives matter. You are a racist person.
We all have friends and family in law enforcement in one way or the other. We don’t hate police, we hate a system that over years has become more about Police protecting each other, instead of us.
We are mad when we see all of these police videos knowing that there are at least another hundred incidents that aren’t being filmed for every one that is.
We are mad when we see police officers that we trust to protect us standing by as bad officers do their thing.
We are mad when we see police officers putting up anti-BLM stuff on the Internet.
We are mad when we see our friends and family members acting mad at us for posting BLM stuff. Or thinking that we don’t like the police because we do post BLM stuff.
We are mad when we don’t see any police officers apologizing for the actions of others.
We are mad when peaceful protesters are treated like looters. There are looters and rioters in Portland and there are peaceful protesters. Both are being treated exactly the same.
We are mad when police officers come into our homes and accidentally kill the wrong people and are not made to pay for it. Breonna Taylor‘s case for example, the police went to the wrong address and murdered someone. This was not a split decision. This took hours and hours of man work to plan and execute.
We are mad at our family and friends and neighbors who try to say terrible things about the dead. Well this guy was a scumbag. Does that give the police the right to be judge jury and executioner on the street with all of us? Your argument is not only gross it’s also racist. Let’s remember Breonna Taylor was an EMT sleeping in her own bed. A 26-year-old girl who is shot to death because the police would planned this big raid went to the wrong address.
We are mad that our parents and grandparents allowed us to live in a system that can profit off of our prisons. No good can come from that.
If you don’t believe that the police let white people go at a higher rate for the exact same crimes as Black people then you are blind. Six white kids could be sitting on a beach smoking pot and the police will tell them to put the joints out. But if six black guys are sitting on the beach smoking joints they will probably be wrestled to the ground and arrested and spend years and years in jail. That’s unfair and it happens all the time. That is white privilege.
Have you ever had a police officer driving behind you? It’s enough to make you completely nervous even if you’ve never done anything wrong in your life. Imagine feeling the same way except being black. Knowing that your whole life could change if you get pulled over, just because someone has that much power.
When I say I want to defund the police, I do not mean I want to abolish the police. I want less funds to go towards things like militarization. Who are they militarizing against if not us? We already have a military. That money could be used in cities to pay Police more, and teachers and help the homeless.
What we need is to revisit what the police force is. We need to remove it from its racist roots. Chokeholds and other maneuvers such as kneeling that have caused death must be removed from our police forces. Remove all racism and blue lines.
We really want to know that if a police officer starts to harass or attack us that the other ones in the area are going to stop them and arrest them. But until we feel like that, we don’t have a safe police force.
