Veteran actor Vinod Khanna passed away at the age of 70. The actor was reportedly suffering from bladder cancer for years.

The news of his death was released in a statement by the HN Reliance Foundation Hospital on Thursday. According to the hospital, he breathed his last at 11.20am on Thursday.

A photo of him looking extremely weal and frail went viral during his stay at the hospital which got fans concerned for his health.

Khanna made his debut in 1968 with Mann Ka Meet, and became a versatile and popular actor in the 1970s and 1980s.

He received the Filmfare Award for Best Supporting Actor for Haath Ki Safaai, Filmfare Lifetime Achievement Award in 1999, and a Lifetime Achievement Award at in 2007.

Celebrities tweeted their condolences after the news of his death.

Khanna has worked in more than 100 films and was an active politician and an MP from Gurdaspur, Punjab.

Vinod is survived by his wife Kavita Khanna, sons Rahul, Akshaye and Sakshi, and daughter Shraddha Khanna.
