After pledging to reach net-zero emissions by the year 2070 at the COP26 Climate Change Conference 2021, India has now put forth a demand of $1 trillion of public cash as climate finance from developed countries by the end of the decade. The sum would be 10 times more than the $100 billion per year for all poor nations agreed upon under previous pacts. India's reasoning? Developed nations have contributed to the major proportion of greenhouse gas emissions so far and ought to compensate poor countries for the damage occurred so far. Will developed nations step up?
