Tesla has made vast improvements to their Model 3 – in December I tested the rear-wheel-drive Highland version over a distance of 1000 km. The temperatures during the test were typical for Switzerland with winterly conditions and temperatures rarely above 5° C and in the mountains, I experienced temperatures down to -8° C.
Despite having the small 61 kWh LFP battery and just one electric motor, the car performed really well with fast acceleration, excellent traction, low consumption and a good range. Comparable cars from the competition typically have 20-30% higher consumption in these conditions.
And the build quality of the Model 3 Highland is very convincing. The Model 3 for Europe is built at Tesla’s Shanghai Gigafactory and proves that the Chinese know how to build good cars, too!
The tyres used were Pirelli Sottozero winter tyres in the dimension 235/45 R18.
