Agua Amarga is a locality and Spanish pedanía pertaining to the municipality of Níjar , in the province of Almería . Agua Amarga is located in the northeastern part of the Metropolitan region of Almeria . Near this town of Agua Amarga are the nuclei of Carboneras , El Llano de Don Antonio , El Argamasón and Fernán Pérez . On the shores of the Mediterranean Sea , the whole village is framed within the Natural Park of Cabo de Gata-Níjar .

Agua Amarga is one of the most populated and frequented tourist centers in the Cabo de Gata-Níjar Natural Park , its urban beach is one of the most popular in the area. The space is equipped with basic equipment for the users (toilets, showers, litter bins, etc.), offering also opportunities to practice activities related to the sea , such as rent of nautical equipment and a diving club .

The Natural Resources Management Plan of the natural park of 2008 , catalogs the urban beach as an area with special regulation (Zone B4). In the eastern end thereof remains of an old jetty where there are still loaded boats with mineral of iron from the mines of Lucainena of the towers .
