ANKARA, TURKEY — At least 18 people are dead as a result of a car bombing, which targeted military personnel in Turkey's capital city. The blast came during rush hour Wednesday, Feb. 17, evening.
Turkey's governor, Mehmet Kilicer, said the blast was aimed at a convoy of military vehicles near Turkey's parliament building. The explosion was heard across Ankara. Smoke from the explosion could be seen from across the city.
Omer Celik of the Justice and Development party called the attack a "heinous act of terrorism." Emergency responders rushed to the scene where at least 18 lives were lost and as many as 60 were injured.
Reuters reported that initial signs pinned responsibility for the bombing on the Kurdistan Workers Party (PKK). Other security sources told Reuters they believe ISIS was behind the attack.
