Many IPMAT Aspirants ask if it is feasible to complete the syllabus in the remaining time and crack the exam or if it is possible to study for the exam after their boards?
The simple answer is: Yes!
The more complicated one is: It depends on your base!
Your IPMAT Preparation is, fortunately or unfortunately, influenced by how much Math and English you’ve done in your formal education so far!
A JEE student can claim that he never studied for IPMAT, just came and cleared the cut-offs. While true, the full picture involves them spending hours on JEE Mains/Advanced. Similarly, you have students studying English their entire lives, from Olympiads to debates. While they say they didn't do much for Verbal, they've been building their base for the last 10-15 years.
In my case, I studied seriously for the exam only a week before IPMAT. I didn’t clear the Indore cutoffs by two marks, but I made it to IIM Ranchi. I got decent IPMAT marks in a week because, from a very young age, I’ve been doing abacus, and my maths base was good. I was also made to write 200-300 word English essays daily for 365 days.
Now, if you don’t have this base, don’t be disheartened. You might be average in Maths and English, but that doesn't mean you can’t crack IPMAT. Think of it this way: you give your best in the remaining time.
Case 1: you get into IIM Indore.
Case 2: it is not enough to get you into IIM Indore. However, whatever level of preparation you will do might be enough for IIM Rohtak, Ranchi, Bodhgaya, Jammu, CUET, Nalsar, NIRMA, IIFT, Symbiosis, Christ, NMIMS, and many more great colleges.
Ab yeh mat bolne ke “mai toh bas IIM Indore ka form bharuga”. Don’t deny yourself the opportunity to study in great colleges over the romanticization of one college. It is not a win-or-lose situation when it comes to preparing for IPMAT. It is a win-win. Being overly fixated on one college will only ruin your preparation. You will become overly anxious about “not getting into IIM Indore,” so free yourself of that trauma and keep an open mind.
If you have little time, give and analyse mocks as frequently as possible. You might not be at a stage of “completing the syllabus”, and that’s completely okay. You can crack IPMAT without fully completing the syllabus too. It is impossible to clear IPMAT without mocks, so give a lot of them and learn concepts question by question instead of trying to complete the vast syllabus if time doesn’t suffice.
