Yellow Cake Recipe
Makes two 8” cake rounds
Cake Ingredients
1 cup (2 sticks) butter, room temperature
2 cups cup sugar
4 eggs
2 egg yolks
3 cups all-purpose flour
3 teaspoons baking powder
1/3 teaspoon salt
2 cups buttermilk
Candy melts in colors of choice for flowers
Yellow sugar pearls (optional)
Buttercream Frosting Ingredients
1 ½ cups butter, softened
4 cups powdered sugar
1 tsp vanilla extract
1-2 T milk
Yellow Cake Directions
Cream together butter and sugar. Add eggs one at a time, mixing after each addition. Then beat in egg yolks. In a separate bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, and salt.Alternate adding dry ingredients and buttermilk to egg mixture, beginning and ending with the dry.
Divide batter between two 8” cake tins that have been buttered and floured. Bake at 350F for 25 min. Turn cakes out onto cooling rack and let cool completely.
Frosting Directions
Cream butter until smooth, then beat in powdered sugar. Mix in vanilla extract, then add enough milk to reach desired consistency.
