Along Kolkata - Siliguri route, Barasat - Barajaguli section is the longest incomplete section of NH-12 (old NH-34). Kalyani Expressway is now the better option for travelling between Kolkata airport and Barajaguli. To complete the 4-laning of Barasat - Barjaguli section of NH-12, NHAI has recently appointed a new construction firm, Mukherjee Associates Infra (MAIPL).

This section is planned to have 8 new over-bridges with 11 underpasses. It will have 8.2 km service roads on both sides. The section starts from Santoshpur More in Barasat and ends near Rajberia More (near Barajaguli) in North 24 Paraganas district in the state of West Bengal.
