"Can anyone please tell me if it's okay to use a cot mattress that a family member gave to me? Hardly been used but i'm scared"

We advised:

A brand new mattress is recommended. Your baby's mattress should:
- Be firm and flat
- Be Protected by a waterproof cover
- Be in good condition
- Meet British Safety Standards
- Fit securely in cot/crib/basket/bed

If you are using a second hand mattress you should check it:
- Is in good condition
- Has no rips, no tears
- Was previously protected with a waterproof cover
- Is firm and flat
- Meets British Safety Standards
- Must fit securely in cot/crib/basket/bed
