In an attempt to control pollution and protect the environment on the sacred Tirumala Hills, APSRTC (Andhra Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation) has been mulling to run electric buses in Tirupati-Tirumala route. For now, one bus made by Goldstone company reached Tirupati a few days ago and drivers are being trained to operate the bus presently. These buses will run entirely on battery with no fuel emission and work with reduced noise and air pollution. Lithium battery with high-speed charging has been chosen to ensure travel of 250 km for every charge. While the cost of each bus pegged at Rs 2.50 crores, the Centre will bear half of the price.
