The average electric bill for Baltimore-area residents could increase by $276 per year beginning in 2025, 11 News Investigates has learned. David Lapp, people's counsel at the Maryland Office of People's Counsel (OPC), an independent state agency that advocates for Maryland residential customers, told 11 News Investigates that electric price hikes are virtually certain to increase for Baltimore Gas and Electric customers by an average of $216 per year, or $18 per month, beginning June 1, 2025, and continuing through May 31, 2026. Lapp said OPC has challenged a separate increase that's pending review by the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission. If approved, the average price increase for BGE customers would surge from $216 per year to $276 per year.
