Flint's mother gives Flint encouragement when he's feeling down. She suggests he follow the example of great inventors, such as Nikola Tesla and Alexander Graham Bell, who weren't deterred by what other people thought of them. Flint then gets back to work on new inventions.
This clip can be used to illustrate self-esteem and ambition. Flint shows vulnerable self-esteem by thinking less of himself because others view him as a weirdo. After his mother's encouraging words, he gains more confidence in himself and his dreams and rushes back to his lab to work. His ambition shines when he shows off all of his inventions. As imperfect as his inventions are, Flint's drive to create more inventions suggests he will keep working until he is successful.
