One afternoon we went on a worldschooling field trip to Chichen Itza. At time of our visit, entry cost about $80 total for our family of 5. Chichen Itza is a sprawling city of ruins, with the immense temple El Castillo in the middle.
As part of homeschool, we watched a few YouTube videos about Mayan civilization and culture. El Castillo was likely built by the Maya between the 8th and 12th centuries AD and served as a temple. Chichén Itzá, the ruined Maya city, is on the list of one of the new Seven Wonders of the World, approximately 1500 years old.
Next, we explored Cenote Ik Kil, which is a natural underground limestone pool about 150 feet deep. Cenotes are often deep water-filled sinkholes, sometimes connected to other cenotes by underground tunnels. After paying $12 per adult and less for kids, we got our life jackets and headed down to the pool.
Back in Merida, we moved into our next Airbnb, a house with 4 bedrooms and a pool. We love that Airbnb allows us to rent houses that have plenty of space for our family to spread about, make meals, do laundry, and homeschool.
In just a few weeks, we look forward to meeting our baby girl. Until then, we planned a few more adventures fairly close to home. Subscribe to our channel and watch our next video to follow along!
