About the Speech:
In her address, President Grabar-Kitarovic addressed the challenges that currently face the European Union from a Croatian perspective. As the EU’s most recent Member State, the President outlined the Croatian view on issues such as the UK’s withdrawal from the EU, the EU’s relationship with its south-eastern neighbours, the migration crisis and the future of European integration. The President also outlined her views on the EU’s role in international affairs.
About the Speaker:
President Grabar-Kitarovic has been in office since February 2015. Between 2011 and 2014, she was Assistant Secretary General of NATO for Public Diplomacy. Prior to that she was Ambassador of Croatia to the United States of America between 2008 and 2011. Between 2005 and 2008, she was Minister of Foreign Affairs and European Integration. Prior to that she was Minister of European Integration between 2003 and 2005. During that time she was also Head of the State Delegation for Negotiations on the Accession of Croatia to the EU. She was first elected to the Croatian parliament in 2003.
