Nataly’s Corner brings you the music of national recording artist, singer-songwriter, producer, and trumpeter Johnny Britt. I was introduced to his music with the 2016 album Johnny Britt meets Marvin Miles. Johnny gives trumpet sounds added flavor blending contemporary jazz influenced by soul. This is evident in his cover of Marvin Gaye songs that just blew me away. This multi-talented artist’s discography, as well as his Bio, is very impressive and I’ll note some of the highlights. He began playing the trumpet at age 12; studied at the prestigious Conservatoire de Versailles in Paris, France under the tutelage of Paris opera trumpeter Roger Dellmotte; and then studied in Chicago where he was discovered and hired by Temptation member Otis Williams, placing him as the youngest musical director, ever, for the Temptations. He founded the R&B group Impromp2; signed with Motown/MO Jazz Records in the 90s and shortly after decided to pursue a solo career. After We Play was released in March 2023 and has several well-known artists collaborating with Johnny on this album. Among them is national recording artist Gerald Albright and hip-hop singer Kashan on this “steppers” vibe. Johnny Britt’s latest promotional single is “Ocean Waves,” which is out now on all digital music platforms.
