US Defense Secretary Ash Carter said the Pentagon would seek a 582.7 billion US dollars defense budget next year. Carter also said the Defense Department planned to invest 71.4 billion US dollars in 2017 on research and development, mostly aimed at boosting strategic capabilities. US military spending is the highest in the world, its total amount equivalent to that of the top 9 countries combined.
