Resident Evil 9 could be an open-world game, it’s been claimed.

According to X user ‘Dusk Golem’, who has a long track record of reporting information about video games before it has been made public, Resident Evil 9 is being developed as an open-world game.

“Dragon’s Dogma 2 expanded RE Engine functionality for open-world games, the two other games building on this tech is Monster Hunter Wild & Resident Evil 9.” While Resident Evil Village allowed players to traverse between several larger, semi-open areas, the main series has yet to experiment with a fully open world.

Monster Hunter Wild, the sequel to Monster Hunter World, was announced in December 2023. The game is set for release in 2025, although Capcom has shared few details about the game. More information about the game will be made public in summer 2024, according to Capcom.
