Nestled in the Gulf Islands of BC, Saturna Island is a great getaway for a weekend in nature. We found ourselves high above the cliffs overlooking endless ocean views and taking in all the surrounding wildlife on our weekend stay!
Saturna Island is a mountainous island but relatively small (about 31 square kilometres in size). It's part of the Southern Gulf Islands chain of British Columbia, Canada. It is located midway between the Lower Mainland of B.C. and Vancouver Island, and is the most easterly of the Gulf Islands. Hence, it is close to the US border. You can actually see the San Juan Islands of the US from Saturna Island.
Today, approximately half of the island are part of the Gulf Islands National Park Reserve (GINPR) that was formed in 2003. There is also a large First Nations reserve on the island, which is still visible today. The island has a permanent population of around 350, although that number increases significantly during the busy summer season when tourists from the mainland and Vancouver Island come visit.
We hope this video inspires you to visit Saturna Island.
