Feb 01, 2015. 08:34 AM. Puffer Fish (Dhongi fish) at the Marine National Park and Sanctuary in the Gulf of Kutch in Narara, 60 km from Jamnagar in Gujarat. This fish called Dhongi in Hindi ("Pretender" in English) is so named because it pretends to be dead.
I held this Dhongi fish in my hand for some time. It remained still. It was out of water for more than three minutes so I put it back in water but it didn't swim away. I wondered if it was dead till I realized that it would swim away only when nobody is around. Sly fish! And to think I was coaxing it to say "Hi", hahaha
