Hello everyone! In this video, we explore Estancias del Lago, one of the most advanced and sustainable dairy farms in Latin America, located in Durazno, Uruguay. Join me as we discover how technology and circular economy are transforming dairy production.
• 📍 Location: Durazno, Uruguay.
• 🐮 Births: 2,500 births per month.
• 🐄 Capacity: We milk 13,650 cows across 6 milking parlors, with an average production of 41 liters per cow.
• 🥛 Milking System: 3 rotary systems with 80 units, one double 24, and two rotary systems with 50 units.
• 🌾 Feeding: Diet composed of 50% forage (corn silage, wheat, ryegrass, clover, and alfalfa hay) and 50% concentrate. • 🌽 Annual Corn Silage Production: About 180,000 tons.
• ♻️ Sustainability: Use of biodigesters to convert waste into biogas, which is used in the milk powder plant and for heating systems on the farm.
• 🔄 Circular Economy: Reuse of sand for bedding, fertigation with waste effluent, and wastewater treatment.
• 👷♂️👷♀️ Employees: 550 direct employees, plus 50 additional staff depending on the season.
Additionally, at Estancias del Lago, we produce our own feed for the cattle, ensuring maximum quality and efficiency. The herd's genetics are 100% Holstein, with a focus on health and solid production, allowing us to export high-quality milk powder to various parts of the world.
